EDF in USA

EDF Group in USA

The new website www.edf.fr is on-line!

The launch of the EDF France site, edf.fr, completes the overhaul of the EDF group web platform On 1 June 2010, EDF went online with its new site, edf.fr. This launch is part of a huge programme to overhaul the Group's websites. Initiated in June 2009, the project is designed to streamline the EDF web platform, moving from a system comprising more than 40 sites to one organised around a corporate portal with a site for each area: France, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Italy, USA, Asia. Customers will be able to become active participants in their own energy consumption through simplified customer navigation focusing on their individual plans (for example: "I'm renovating", "I'm moving house") or practical topics ("Reading my meter", "My account"). EDF has also enhanced the news content concerning what's happening on our industrial sites in a new section entitled "Live from our power stations".

Animal conservation at Le Blayais

An area near the Blayais power plant and Gironde Estuary has been identified as a migratory stopover for ducks and storks. Nearby, a bird sanctuary has been created on the site of a former industrial wasteland, a project supported by the EDF team at Le Blayais.

Hire, hiring... hire me !

"Energy Day" is an annual meeting where experts from EDF and its subsidiaries come together to answer questions from new graduates and students about a very dynamic business and discuss career possibilities within the Group.22 October 2009, Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris.

Homecoming

At Blayais Nuclear Power Plant, we asked engineer and team leader Luc Osty a few questions. He worked for three years at the Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant in China. He looks back on his role in China and his human, professional and personal experiences during the three years he spent in Asia. He recalls what it was like coming back to France – a rich experience on more than one level.

France-Usa

Olivier Gauvrit is a maintenance engineer in Tours; he’s getting ready to leave France to go to Baltimore in Maryland, where he will be on a 3-year assignment for UNISTAR. Olivier Gauvrit tells us about how he is preparing for his departure, and looks back on the support provided by the various EDF departments to help his professional move which involves his whole family.

Engineer in Taishan

Frédéric Sardi is an engineer on the EPR Taishan construction site. Here he tells us about his life as an expatriate. It was a very rich professional and personal experience for him and his family in China, between their very French culinary habits and exploring the most outstanding sites in Asia.

A fully autonomous island

The island of Quemenes, in the Iroise Sea off the coast of Brittany, was until recently becoming an increasingly deserted and lifeless island. But together with the Conservatoire du Littoral coastal preservation society, EDF has worked hard to regenerate the area. An innovative new approach was adopted: in order to boost the island’s biodiversity, man was the first species to be reintroduced! This model is now being replicated on other islands, both in France and abroad.

The first EPR in the United Kingdom

At Hinkley-Point, Henri Proglio, EDF’s Chairman and CEO, toured the site of the very first EPR to be built in the United Kingdom.

The Hydraulic Sector

Hydraulic energy, in which EDF has traditionally specialized, represents 20% of France’s power. This sector has also been a major challenge for recruitment, as recalled by experts who attended Energy Day.

Generating energy from the sun

In Rhône-Alpes, EDF is installing photovoltaic panels for social housing projects, gymnasiums, homes and offices.

Made in China

The Daya-Bay power station will supply electricity to the city of Shenzhen, not far from Hong-Kong, a city with a rocketing population in the industrial heartland of China. The construction and maintenance of an EDF plant are terrific successes for the Group.

Chimneys of innovation…

... or how to recycle smoke. The fossil-fired power plant in Le Havre has decided to privilege the recovery and recycling of smoke, which is converted into a raw material for construction. An environmentally friendly solution that has been used, among other things, to build the Pont de Normandie.

Mikaël Di Nicola, EDF boilermaker

Mikael Di Nicola, an EDF boilermaker for the past 4 years, gives us a look at his daily life at the Aramon fossil fuel fired power station and his "pipe cathedral": the boiler.

Electriciens Sans Frontières: energy development

In Paris, Electricians Without Borders’ 9 permanent members of staff make it possible for the volunteers on the ground to deploy their aid and rescue missions. What methods do they use, who are their projects aimed at and what are their priorities? We meet the ESF managers in Paris.

EDF Team – committed athletes

The EDF Team is made up of 20 top level athletes from sports that are sponsored by the Group: swimming, sport for the disabled, canoe-kayak and rowing. They all share the same goal: to compete in the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, an event for which EDF is to be a sustainability partner. In Tignes, we get to know the remarkable EDF Team athletes a little better.

The largest battery in Europe

We are in the habit of stating that unlike other forms of energy, electricity cannot be stored. The Saint-André de la Réunion site, which is currently experimental, is equipped with a 1 MW battery and may be about to prove us wrong!
